Hi all,
Welcome to the blog of my trip around Scotland in an old 24' Cornish Crabber Mk1.
Why call this blog 'David goes over the top'? I hear you ask. Well I could take the short route between the Firth of Forth and the Firth of Clyde, about 70'ish miles across the Forth and Clyde Canal, but this tale is about a longer trip over the top of Scotland, this will be more like 750'ish miles of some of the most challenging waters around the UK coast. At times I'll be nearer to the Arctic circle than to London.
The good ship Ruach is due to come out of the water early March 2011 to have some deck repairs carried out before the start of the trip. Hopefully this won't take too long (or be too expensive!). I'll let you know how things proceed. Following having the deck work done I have some fitting out work to do myself on Ruach before commencing the voyage at the end of May.
Don't forget to drop me a note at onpassage@dhippey.co.uk to sign up to be informed when blog updates appear.
If you came to this blog from the website www.eventoftheyear.co.uk you will hopefully have had a look around the site and be aware of what I'm up to, both the adventure itself and the fact that I'm aiming to raise awareness of dementia in our society and to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.
I'm doing this trip for fun and funding the trip myself, but while I'm on this venture you can do your bit to by supporting the Alzheimer's Society through the 'Charity' link on the webpage www.eventoftheyear.co.uk or by going direct to the website http://www.justgiving.com/david-hippey/
Thanks for your support.
Catch you next time.
David H.
